“Never give up!”
I know. It sounds cheesy, and we’ve all heard it a million times. Frankly, it is cheesy sometimes, especially when it’s tied to our dreams and our desires. People tell us to never give up on something, but are some things meant to let go of?
As a follower of Jesus, I’m constantly letting go of my flesh and sinful desires, but on the flip side, I also have to continue pursuing that of the Spirit, and it can be really tough. Like really tough. When Jesus calls us to live by faith, he really means it. It means our definition of success has to go, and we can no longer measure accomplishments by how many people show up to a worship event or how many Bible verses we read in a day. Do you know how hard that is in a world that demands measurable success? Sadly, though, I’ve seen many people, including myself, go through the motions but have no fruit come to bear.
I want to stop doing the same old things and expecting the same results. I want to persevere and continue running forward, moving ever closer to Jesus and his love and purpose for us.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” – Galatians 6:9 NLT
